New York University Steinhardt School
Barney Building
Graf & Lewent Architects was initially retained by NYU's Steinhardt School to prepare a Code Analysis to identify key life safety improvements to the 90-year-old, 67,000 square foot Barney Building, which houses the school's Applied Arts Program. As part of the report, Graf & Lewent recommended targeted improvements to upgrade the functioning of major areas of the building.

Based on the report, NYU retained Graf & Lewent to implement many of the key recommended improvements. The modifications included enhancements to "The Commons" gallery space, implementing safer and more uniform studio spaces for Graduate Students, corrections to egress conditions and the addition of much needed code compliant restrooms. Graf & Lewent worked with the lead engineers to coordinate the installation of a building-wide sprinkler system as well as improvements to the HVAC system.
