New York University Steinhardt School
Pless Hall
NYU's Steinhardt School retained Graf & Lewent Architects to create a 7,000 square foot office and instructional space for its Occupational Therapy division. But the OT group would not move in immediately — the space was to be used first by another Steinhardt division for a couple of years. Graf & Lewent developed a detailed program to identify the needs of both groups, and to analyze where the two groups had common and divergent needs. The resulting plan was fitted to the needs of the first occupants, but incorporated features such as plumbing and electric service to handle the ultimate needs of the OT group. Existing features of the structure, such as the wood floors, cast iron columns and ornate brackets were revealed as part of the renovation.
