CUNY College of Staten Island
Laboratory Building Master Plan
Graf & Lewent Architects was selected by the City University of New York to assist with the reprogramming and master planning of a 115,000 square foot laboratory building on the campus of The College of Staten Island (CSI). CSI Building 6S was earmarked to receive a major restructuring of its outdated HVAC systems to sharply reduce energy consumption, and improve the quality of the interior environment. In order to allow the upgrading of the infrastructure, Graf & Lewent Architects was retained to determine the contents and operational needs of each laboratory space in the building, and develop an approach to allow the renovation to take place without interrupting vital continuing research. The relevant administrators and faculty heads were interviewed to develop a comprehensive building program, and used this as a basis to prepare phasing plans for the relocation and restoration of the diverse laboratory spaces.
