Rental Building & Site Improvements

AVIS Rent A Car System, JFK International Airport, NY

Project size : 9,000 SF

Graf & Lewent had to address complex site issues to design the new, from-the-ground-up rental facility for Avis at JFK Airport. The new building had to provide easy and identifiable access for customers arriving from the new JFK AirTrain station, as well as quick, convenient access to the reconfigured parking field. In addition, the new building had to be distinctive, while incorporating Avis’ new corporate identifier system. Finally, the single-story building had to provide a positive image when viewed from an approaching AirTrain, 50 feet above the ground!

Working closely with Avis’ facilities and operations staff, Graf & Lewent developed a split design for the 9,000 square foot building. The highly visible north side became a nearly all-glass pavilion housing the customer circulation areas. The south half houses the rental counter and offices under a conventional roof. The two sections are bisected on an angle with a “feature wall,” which penetrates the glass roof and incorporates a large Avis identifier.
