Music Classrooms

New York University, New York, NY

Project size : 1,025 SF

Graf & Lewent was retained by NYU to handle the complete renovation of a Music Lecture Hall, as well as experimental Music Lab.

The Lecture Hall was reworked to provide better sight lines, acoustics, comfort and audiovisual capabilities. Acoustical materials and AV systems were carefully incorporated to meet the high standards of the Music faculty. The floating ceilings incorporated lighting that allows multiple scenes, for lecturing, video presentation and live performances.

As part of the same project, a former classroom was repurposed as a Music Lab. The room had to be nearly acoustically “dead”, and include the framework for the installation of a “dome of sound”.

Graf & Lewent has performed multiple projects for NYU Music beginning in 1998.
